About Us
Our Story
G̱ilakas’la!
My name is Samantha Pelkey, and I am the proud founder of Traditional Tides Adventures. I am a member of the Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw Nation, with matrilineal roots in the ‘Na̱mg̱is, Ławit̓sis, and Ma’amtagila peoples, and patrilineal ties to the Tsawout of the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. My vision for Traditional Tides Adventures is to create a space where people can experience the teachings, traditions, and beauty of the Coast Salish waters while fostering a deeper understanding of reconciliation and Indigenous culture.
My career began in Indigenous event programming, where I helped bring to life some of the first Indigenous cultural events ever held in Vancouver. Over the years, I have had the honour of working alongside artists, performers, and knowledge keepers to elevate Indigenous voices and share our stories through music, theatre, and community gatherings. After working with organizations such as the First Peoples’ Cultural Council and the Belfry Theatre, I felt called to return to my original dream: building a tourism business rooted in storytelling, cultural protocol, and connection to the land and waters. In 2023, I began developing Traditional Tides Adventures, a company dedicated to sharing Coast Salish traditions and teachings through immersive canoe journeys. As a proud mother of four, I am deeply committed to creating opportunities for Indigenous youth and future generations to carry these teachings forward. Through Traditional Tides Adventures, I hope that every guest leaves with memories that inspire understanding, respect, and reconciliation.
G̱ilakas’la. Thank you for allowing me to share my story, and welcome to this journey.
